RUSSIAN PERSPECTIVE Hatred of Putin makes US officials ‘do dumb things’ – Seymour Hersh Legendary investigative journalist Seymour Hersh on Sunday offered a theory for what he sees as “complete idiocy” in foreign policy from US officials. He told Chinese state television that he believes they’re so consumed by hatred of Russian President Vladimir Putin that they stumble into bad decisions. Hersh, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who reported last month that US President Joe Biden ordered last fall’s sabotage of the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines, has called the alleged plot one of Washington’s “dumbest” decisions in years. However, the…

The area is now under almost constant bombardment from Russian forces on the opposite side of the Dnipro River. One more person died in the eastern Donetsk region, regional officials said. Zelenskiy said the three people…

Federal government generated a total of N2.83 trillion from Company Income Tax (CIT) in 2022, an increase of 116 percent from its 2021 figure. National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) disclosed this in its recent CIT report for the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2022. Poor revenue generation has continued to pose a challenge to Nigeria’s finances, ultimately affecting its capability to finance its budget — hence the resort to debt acquisition. Last year, President Muhammadu Buhari had said the country’s poor performance in resource mobilisation was a source of concern, as “tax revenues are approximately 8 percent of our output”. Buhari,…
WESTERN PERSPECTIVE Ukraine says Bakhmut battle is grinding down Russia's best units Ukraine has decided to fight on in the ruined city of Bakhmut because the battle is pinning down Russia's best units and degrading them ahead of a planned Ukrainian spring counter-offensive, an aide to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said. The comments by Mykhailo Podolyak were the latest signal of a shift by Kyiv this week to continue the defence of the small eastern city, site of the war's bloodiest battle, as Moscow tries to secure its first major victory in more than half a year. "Russia has changed tactics,"…
A Russian state TV host suggested this week that people in the UK are being forced to eat squirrels because their country is spending so much money on military aid to Ukraine. "Today it was revealed that some restaurants in once-Great Britain will be serving squirrels," Olga Skabayeva said on Russian news show "60 Minutes," per a translation by Ukrainian interior ministry adviser Anton Gerashchenko. "In view of the fact that there are plenty of animals in the parks, so why not eat them, bearing in mind the food shortage [in the UK]," Skabayeva said in the video. She added:…
