Internally generated revenue (IGR) collected by the states reached N2.43 trillion in 2023, a significant 26.03% increase from N1.93 trillion in 2022, as states focused on expanding local revenue in response to fiscal pressures. Data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) show that Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Rivers State generated the highest revenue, collectively contributing over N1 trillion, or more than 41% of the total IGR. In a statement by Oluwafemi Soneye, NNPC spokesperson, on Thursday, the national oil company said it engaged the helicopter operated by East Winds Aviation. The Naira yesterday depreciated to N1,739 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,735 per dollar on Wednesday. However, the Naira appreciated to N1,601.2 per dollar in the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market, NAFEM. Data from FMDQ showed that the indicative exchange rate for NAFEM fell to N1,601.2 per dollar from N1,654.09 per dollar on Wednesday, indicating N52.89 appreciation for the naira. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says the global economic growth rate will stabilise at 3.2 percent in 2024 and 2025, forecasting a slowdown in Nigeria.
