Ahead of 2019 general elections, at least 50 per cent of the 360 House of Representatives members of the eighth assembly will not return to the ninth assembly next year. 2019: US warns of looming violence in Nigeria

United States Government has expressed fear that Nigeria’s general elections scheduled for 2019 are likely to be characterised by violence. It said the conduct of the elections could have significant consequences for the democratic trajectory of Nigeria, West Africa, and the entire continent. Presidential Candidate of Social Democratic Party, (SDP), Mr Donald Duke, says he will appeal the judgement removing him as the party’s presidential flag bearer. Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday declared Mr Jerry Gana, a former Minister of Information, as presidential candidate of SDP.
