Gunmen have killed three people and abducted others in Sabuwa Local Council of Katsina State.

The incident occurred early Wednesday morning while the residents were asleep.

It was learned that the gunmen, who rode on motorcycles and armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the community, taking vigilante groups and other security volunteers unawares.

Many people, including those scampering for safety, were reportedly injured during the attack.

It was gathered that houses were looted while three people were abducted.

An unconfirmed report claimed that both the deceased and abducted were all males.

Spokesperson for the police command, Gambo Isah, was yet to respond to an inquiry on the issue at press time.

In a related development, gunmen also attacked Gago village in Dutsinma Local Council.

The bandits were said to have gone from one house to another, looting valuables, harassing residents, and rustling domestic animals, but were later accosted by security operatives while escaping with the animals.

Isah confirmed the incident, adding that the rustled animals were recovered.

IN another development, the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has blamed governors, who take over the administration of local councils, for the insecurity across the country.

NULGE National President, Olatunji Ambali, who stated this, yesterday, in Abuja at the flag-off of national prayer for the actualisation of local council political and financial autonomy, added that the solution to insecurity might continue to elude the country until a functional local council system is allowed.

While averring that development and security begin at the grassroots, Ambali accused governors of relying on the lacuna in the 1999 Constitution to violate local councils.
