Organising the vote is a vital part of winning or losing an election. But the job of organising the vote takes place well before the day of election. I have been a part of organising two successful election campaigns. And I can tell you for free that preparing the minds of the voters is a more important task than how they use their ballot papers on election day. So, get your voters card but know that the ones who are now saying that there are no polling booths on social media do not know what they are talking about. Pressure, mind control and propaganda are vital parts of winning an election. These days, much of that takes place via communication, of which social media is today a critical component. Voters' decisions on where to mark their ballots on election day are often dependent on these vital factors. Elections are won and lost well before the day of polling. Regimes are usually delegitimised in the hearts and minds of the electorate way before election day. People hear so much of the N2k or N5k shared to voters on election day. They get to hear much less of the multiples in millions, possibly billions, that go to editors, social media influencers, priests and others before the elections. If all that mattered was the vote on election day, the monies going to each will not be so skewed and the energy invested in building a support base won't be so much. So, when next someone tells you there are no polling booths on social media, please ask them to tell you another one!
