Lawal who died last week at the age of 60 years, was a former Group Business Editor at the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, the publisher's of the Tribune titles, for many years.

A statement by the Oyo NUJ Chairman, Ademola Babalola, described the deceased as a thoroughbred professional who mentored many of today’s print journalists in the state.

He said the news of the death of Lawal left a sour taste in the mouth, but took solace in the fact that his legacies remained unassailable in the profession and the communities at large.

Lawal was noted for his incisive business and economic analysis, aside his unrivalled budgetary evaluation and reportage in the Nigerian media industry for many years, where he distinguished himself as an Editor's delight.

He was survived by Olayemi Lawal, daughter; Dolapo Lawal, son and Bolutife Lawal, daughter.

The burial was attended by his three surviving children, brothers, family members, relatives, professional colleagues, representatives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State, and sympathisers from all walks of life.
