ABBA KABIR OF KANO
Candidate of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Abba Kabir, has been declared winner of the governorship election in the state.
The NNPP candidate won with 1,019,602 votes to defeat candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Nasiru Gawuna, who scored 890,705 votes. The NNPP candidate thus won with a margin of 128,897 votes.
Candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Muhammad Abacha, got 15,957 votes while that of the Labour Party, Ishaq Bashir, scored 5,409 votes.
Returning officer, Ahmad Doko, declared Kabir the winner Monday morning.
Kano has 5,921,370 registered voters, out of which 2,329,055 voters were accredited.
KEFAS AGBU OF TARABA
Candidate of the PDP in Taraba State, Kefas Agbu, has been declared the governor-elect having scored the highest number of votes in the 18 March election.
M.A. Abdulazeez, a professor and returning officer for INEC in the state, said Agbu polled 302,614 votes to defeat the candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Muhammad Yahaya, who scored 202,277 votes, Channels TV reported.
Agbu is a retired Nigerian army lieutenant colonel and former PDP state chairman. The results were declared by INEC in Jalingo, the state capital.
SIM FUBARA OF RIVERS
Candidate of the PDP has been returned the winner of the 2023 governorship election in Rivers State.
Sim Fubara scored 302,614 votes to win the election in the Niger Delta state, INEC officially declared on Monday after collating results from all the local government areas at its state headquarters in Port Harcourt.
Coming behind Fubara, Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress had 95,274 votes while Beatrice Itubo of the Labour Party scored 22,224 votes to come third.
SHERIFF OBOREVWORI
INEC) has declared Sheriff Oborevwori of the PDP as winner of the 18 March governorship election in Delta State.
The State INEC Collation Officer, Onuwari Georgewill, a professor and vice-chancellor, University of Port Harcourt, made the declaration on Monday in Asaba.
Georgewill said Oborevwori polled a total of 360,234 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Ovie Omo-Agege of the APC who scored 240,229 votes.
Breakdown of the results on a local government basis, as announced by the local government collation officers, showed that Oborevwori won in 21 local government areas (LGAs), while Omo-Agege won in four out of the 25 LGAs of the state.
UBA SANI OF KADUNA
Candidate of the APC, Uba Sani, has been declared winner of the 2023 governorship election in Kaduna State.
The final result was announced at about 9 p.m. in Kaduna on Monday.
Sani was declared winner by the Returning Officer for Kaduna State and Vice-Chancellor of the Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, Lawal Bilbis.
Sani polled a total of 730,002 votes to defeat his closest rival, Isa Ashiru of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 719,196 votes.
Labour Party (LP) candidate, Jonathan Asake, came a distant third with 58,283 votes while the NNPP candidate, Suleiman Hunkuyi, scored 21,405 votes.
Earlier, the PDP had rejected the results of some local governments including Lere, saying the announced result did not tally with what was uploaded on the INEC election portal, IReV.
UMAR BAGO OF NIGER
INEC) has declared Umar Bago of the APC as winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Niger State.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Academics, University of Abuja who is INEC Returning Officer, Clement Alawa, announced the results of the election on Monday in Minna.
Alawa, a professor, said Bago polled 469,896 votes to defeat his closest rival, Isah Liman-Kantigi of the PDP, who scored 387,476 votes.
He said Joshua Bawa of the Labour Party (LP) and Ibrahim Yahaya of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) got 3,415 and 3,378 votes, respectively.
Alawa said the total registered voters in the state were 2,698,344, while the total accredited voters were 899,488.
He said the total valid votes were 873,020, the total rejected votes, 16,936 and the total votes cast, 889,950.
HYACINTH ALIA OF BENUE
APC candidate, Hyacinth Alia, has won the Benue State governorship election held on Saturday, 18 March.
Alia, a Roman Catholic priest, defeated his closest challenger, Titus Uba of the PDP. Uba is the current Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly.
Announcing the results of the governorship poll in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Monday, Faruk Kuta, the state collation and returning officer, said Alia scored 473,933 votes to beat Uba who polled 223,913 votes.
Giving the breakdown of the votes, Kuta who is the vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, (FUT) Minna, said the valid votes were 756,903, while the rejected votes were: 11,499. The total votes cast were: 768,402.
Citing section 24(1) of the Electoral Act (2022) and INEC Guidelines for the election, the State Returning Officer declared Alia as winner of the 2023 Benue State governorship election.
The margin of win is 250,020 votes based on the total number of votes collated from 22 out of the 23 local government areas of Benue State.
The governorship and state parliamentary elections in Kwande Local Government Area were shifted to Tuesday, 21 March, due to printing errors in ballot papers discovered during the Saturday election.
Kwande LGA has a total number of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) of 156,826, representing 91 per cent of 172,293 registered voters.
Therefore, with the margin of lead put at 250,020 votes above the number of PVCs collected in the affected areas which is 156,826, Alia was declared winner by the electoral umpire.
On Sunday, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Benue State, Sam Egwu, said the winner of the governorship poll might be declared if the margin of win is greater than the number of registered voters who collected their PVCs in Kwande LGA.
Both Alia and Uba hail from Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State.
The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Benue, Herman Hembe, came third in the race with 41,881 votes.
BASSEY OTU OF CROSS RIVER
Candidate of the APC in Cross River State, Bassey Otu, has been declared governor-elect having scored the highest number of votes in the 18 March election.
Teddy Charles, a professor and returning officer for INEC) in the state, said Otu polled 258,619 votes to defeat candidate of the PDP, Sandy Onor, who scored 179,636 votes.
Otu, a former federal lawmaker, won in 15 of the 18 local government areas of the state. The results were declared by INEC in Calabar, the state capital.
With the victory, Otu will become the first governor of the state to be elected on the platform of a different party outside PDP which had governed the state since the return of democracy in 1999.
Previous governors of the state, Donald Duke, Liyel Imoke and incumbent Ben Ayade were all elected for two terms of eight years on the platform of the PDP.
Ayade, however, defected to the APC in 2021. He was one of the major supporters of Otu.
FRANCIS NWIFURU OF EBONYI
Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state.
Declaring the result at the INEC State Headquarters in Abakaliki on Sunday, the State Returning Officer, Charles Igwe, said Francis Nwifuru garnered a total of 199,131 votes cast across the 13 local governments in the state.
His closest challenger, Ifeanyi Odii of the PDP, got a total of 80,191 votes to place second.
Candidate of the APGA, Bernard Odoh, came third with 52,189 votes.
“I, Charles Igwe, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer of the governorship election held on 18th March 2023 in Ebonyi State.
“That Francis Nwifuru of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and having scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” he said
Igwe, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsuka, said the total valid votes were 342,554 while 7,387 votes were rejected; bringing the total votes cast for the election to 349,941.
