Clashes between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State resulted in multiple injuries. Among the injured was the APC governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, who sustained a neck injury. Earlier, PDP members had protested outside the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office demanding a joint inspection of election materials.

On Monday, APC supporters, led by Cole and state chairman Emeka Beke, also gathered at the INEC office to demand the release of certified true copies of documents used in the March 18th governorship election.

When PDP protesters spotted Cole, they pelted him with stones and sachets of water. Security personnel guarding Cole shielded him and whisked him into a vehicle, but protesters continued to throw objects at him.

Soldiers and police arrived and dispersed the protesters with gunshots, and an eyewitness claimed that a security officer attached to Cole fired a shot that hit one of the protesters in the leg, causing him to bleed profusely. Cole was later taken away by his security detail.
