CBN begins charges on deposits, withdrawals above N500,000

Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday said that the nationwide implementation of the cashless policy will begin by March 2020. The apex bank said this in a circular to all Deposit Money Banks in the country. It said that implementation of the policy would signal the imposition of charges on deposits in addition to already existing charges on withdrawals. According to the circular, the charges, which take effect from Wednesday (today) will attract three per cent processing fees for withdrawals and two per cent processing fees for lodgments of amounts above N500,000 for individual accounts. Andela restructures as it lays off 250 software engineers

Tech firm and talent accelerator, Andela, has announced that it will lay off over 250 junior engineers across Kenya, Uganda, and Nigeria. Gov insists Fulani herdsmen from Niger, Chad, other countries will benefit from FG’s livestock scheme

Fulani herdsmen from Chad, Niger and other neighbouring countries will benefit from National Livestock Transformation Plan, Bauchi State Governor, Mr Bala Mohammed, has said. Oil prices soar after attacks on Saudi facilities

Oil prices hit their highest in four months after two attacks on Saudi Arabian facilities on Saturday knocked out more than 5% of global supply. At the start of trading, Brent crude jumped 19% to $71.95 a barrel, while the other major benchmark, West Texas Intermediate, rose 15% to $63.34. VAT increased by 50 percent, not 44% – FG

The proposed increase of Value Added Tax (VAT) rate from 5 to 7.5 percent (50 percent increase) by the federal government is subject to review and approval of the National Assembly, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mr Zainab Ahmed, has said. VAT increase will wipe out minimum wage gains - NECA

Moves by Federal Government to increase Value Added Tax (VAT) from five per cent to 7.2 per cent would neutralise benefits of the recently signed national minimum wage of N30,000, Organised Private Sector (OPS) has said. FG approves 44 percent increase in VAT

Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved an increase in the Value Added Tax (VAT) payable in Nigeria. Minister of Finance, Mrs Zainab Ahmed announced the approval while briefing journalists after the FEC meeting presided by President Muhammadu Buhari.
