Naira falls to unprecedented level at parallel market

Naira, on Wednesday, weakened to N707 a dollar at the parallel section of the foreign exchange market. The figure represents N42 or 7.45 percent depreciation compared to the N658 it traded last week — further losing value against the dollar. Street traders who spoke to TheCable said the free fall resulted from the lingering foreign exchange (FX) supply constraints. Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given approval to Nigeria Air to lease aircraft to start operations. TotalEnergies begins oil production from Nigeria’s Ikike field

French oil and energy company TotalEnergies has begun production from the Ikike field in Nigeria, which is expected to deliver peak production of 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day by the end of 2022, it said on Monday. The European Union is seeking additional gas supplies from Nigeria as the bloc prepares for potential Russian supply cuts, Matthew Baldwin, deputy director general of the European Commission's energy department, said on Saturday. Airlines say flights will be delayed, cancelled in coming days due to aviation fuel scarcity

Nigerian airlines, under the aegis of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), say there will be major disruptions of flights due to scarcity of aviation fuel, also known as JET-A1.
