And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death .... they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance ~ Hebrews 9:15.
Introduction:
God’s covenant is our sure anchor and our unfailing shield against any evil in this wicked world. Notwithstanding, you must know the benefits it offers, believing and personally embracing them before you can enjoy them.
Losses stall progress, serial defeat seriously endangers destiny, but winning systematically in the various battles of life is very crucial to notable accomplishments. Hence, God planned for His covenant people to be empowered, and to enjoy surplus prosperity in all ramifications: spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically (3 John 2).
Today, many people allow themselves to be described and defined by their present circumstances. This ought not to be so, particularly if you know the ways of the covenant.
Covenant is the main reason God will ever show mercy or work to favor any man (Exodus 2:23-25). It does not matter what your peculiar situation may be. Occasionally, it may even appear as if some silent murderers are shooting their arrows at you, and the enemies are hitting you below the belt. Never fret.
What matters most is your abiding affinity to God’s covenant, even when there is a serious gang-up against your life and all indices look hopeless. Ask yourself constantly: “am I keeping true to God’s covenant? Am I maintaining His presence in my life?” Your answers in this regard will always define the end of the story.
The Challenges of Life And The New Covenant Believers
Of a truth, real battles and troubles in life are often stronger than the ordinary strength of man. That is why we need the Almighty God to stand with us and fight for us as we seek to enjoy the good life He offered us in Christ Jesus (John 10:10). To fly triumphantly, you need a real covenant walk with the Lord.
When a man is in covenant with God and carries the pure presence of the Lord, no matter the negativity of the circumstances that may come his way, he will triumph at last (Exodus 33:12-14). The blessing of the Lord is all about who you are in Christ, and not what you are or have.
The first thing Abraham encountered, after he received the blessing of the Lord and stepped out in faith, was famine (Genesis 12:7-10)! And he did not grumble or run back to his father's house of idolatry and yet he had testimonies. Why? He knew the Lord was with him, by covenant. Did God know that famine was coming? Yes, He knew, and that was why He made sure Abraham was blessed by covenant.
When a man, blessed by covenant, encounters any adverse situation, it turns around for him (Genesis 13:2). While other people suffer, covenant people will still have great stories of God’s mercy to tell (Genesis 47:18,27).
The Secret Strength of the Covenant
Generally, covenants are stronger than any climate or any circumstances. They are forceful, binding and perpetual, until a stronger one sets it aside (Psalms 89:34). And, this is especially true of the New Covenant cut through the blood of its Testator, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 9:13-14; 12:18-10, 22-24).
Without doubt or equivocation, the New Testament is the better covenant through the blood of Jesus. It is the strongest and the most forceful of all covenants ever cut since the world began. It binds God’s love and mercy to whosoever believes, all through the dispensation of grace, till now!
The strength of the New Covenant lies in the fact that it is God’s best, latest and the final covenant arrangement between God and man. Moreover, it is established on better promises and parameters (Hebrews 8:6-8).
Besides this, the blood of Jesus Christ that ratifies the New Covenant is the blood of the highest life form, Zoe life, and it speaks better things (Hebrews 12:24). With an irresistible voice, it speaks forgiveness, justification, redemption, healing, deliverance, prosperity, victory, progress, long life, and indeed, eternal life (John 10:10).
However, the most important reason the New Testament is the strongest and most forceful is because of the Spirit that works behind it. No wonder then the Word spoken under this Covenant is spirit and life (John 6:63; Zechariah 4:6; Isaiah 59:21).
Jesus Christ is the Guarantor of the New Testament, till today (John 1:1; Hebrews 9:13-17). Hence, God’s Spirit stands continually in the midst of His covenant people to watch over the Words, making them inviolate, and empowering the covenant with incredible strength (Zechariah 4:6).
Great Imports of the New Testament
God’s covenant with the entire human race through Jesus Christ is a sure covenant of abundance, and it is multi-faceted in its delivery. It does not only provoke salvation, healing and deliverance, but it also brings us in contact with all the graces of God, enriching us in true wealth, financial multiplication, good health and tight defense (Psalm 20:1-3).
Never doubt it, you are eternally secured in the covenant, if you will only keep true to it. By the believers’ heritage in Christ Jesus, no arrow of the enemy can reach you, no occult power can overwhelm your destiny, neither can any spell or enchantment succeed against you (Job 1:9-10). These are settled facts of our privileged position in the New Covenant!
Meanwhile, I need to emphasize that man can never enjoy the divine covenant except by the way of the mercy of God (Psalm 89:24-25; Leviticus 16:2,13). Notwithstanding, we must keep in mind the fact that relationships, including our covenant relationship with God, thrive on principles of deposit and withdrawal (John 8:29).
Beloved, in conclusion, it is our turn to breakthrough, shine and be fully defended by the covenant (Isaiah 541-5; 60:1-3). But we must keep in mind that our lifestyle of genuine love for God, total obedience, faith and sacrifice are important requirements to constantly oil our covenant position in Christ Jesus. I pray that your destiny will never again abuse the grace of God, in Jesus Name. Amen. Happy Sunday!
