How To Truly Enjoy The Goodness of God

I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living ~ Psalms 27:13.

Introduction

Beloved, just imagine what effects it would have on you, and the consequent impacts it could generate in your world if you were to  experience a continuous flow of God’s power and a nonstop overflow of His goodness, just like the Israelites did in the wilderness!

At that time, about three million people experienced God’s power firsthand, every single day, for 40 years. They were in dire need of food and water, and God miraculously supplied everything they needed. They tempted God, proved Him, and they saw His works (Hebrews 3:9).

Certainly, they had heard of God’s goodness and faithfulness from Moses, but their desperate circumstances in the wilderness gave them an opportunity to prove God. Amazingly, every time they tested Him, God proved that He was absolutely good, and much more than able to care for them.

When they needed food, He gave them several tons of manna, daily (Psalm 78:25-29). When they needed water, He miraculously provided millions of liters of water (Exodus 17:5-6). He even ensured that their raiments and their shoes didn’t wax old on them (Deuteronomy 8:4; 29:5; Nehemiah 9:21).

Remember, they were in the wilderness with no adequate natural resources to cater for that large number of people. Hence, they would naturally have perished, but God faithfully provided what they needed, daily. The supernatural became normal for them, and they found God to be truly reliable and faithful in every situation.

Meanwhile, sweeter and much more glorious are the provisions made available to the believers today, if we can only understand them! It is our Father's bounties that feed us. It is our Father's hands that uphold and guide us. It is our Father's Spirit and grace that comfort and inspire us. All that we are, have and hope to be come from Him. We can actually taste, and enjoy the fullness of His goodness!

Believing To Enjoy the Overflowing Goodness of God

Quite unfortunately, many people today, though subjects of the divine goodness, aren’t enjoying it. The daily loads of divine favours are available to them and their tables are fully spread, yet they don’t properly taste the goodness of God.

They incessantly face difficult situations wherein they need to see the goodness of God, and the Lord is very eager to heap the abundance of His goodness upon them. Yet, they’re not benefiting as they should from the bottomless fountains of God’s goodness.

Why? Well, perhaps, they fail to heartily believe the reports of God’s Word, and consequently, the “Arm of the Lord” is not being fully outstretched to help them. God is constantly looking for people who can dare to believe His Word, so that He can promptly release His immense power and goodness into their lives (Isaiah 53:1).

God’s goodness is always sure and available to the sons of men (Psalm 24:1). He has promised to bestow it on us based on the premise of His grace, but it behoves us to do our due diligence to attract it by daring to believe God’s Word (Psalms 27:13).

No one can partake of God’s gracious blessings without faith. To taste and enjoy His goodness, our faith is an important requirement (1 Peter 2:1-3). The blessed child of God, therefore, is the one who trusts in Him, and constantly depends on Him for all issues of life and godliness. Yes, such believer is blessed now, and he is blessed forever!

David said he would have fainted if he had not believed to see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living. Do you believe? That is the real question of destiny here!

Jesus Christ said, “if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God”(John 11:40). Recall that “glory” is the “goodness of God” manifested (Exodus 33:19). Hence, if you can believe, just like David did, you too will experience the goodness of God. Faith is a very essential commodity to the Christian life (Hebrews 11:6).

Now, we can clearly see that God has literally put everything in your courtyard. It is not about His ability! He is always able, and He can do anything, any time! But, the critical issue is: Can you believe Him for it? Whosoever will dare to believe God can experience the performance of all His promises (Luke 1:45; Exodus 23:26).

By now, I can safely assume that you want to service your faith in order to make it attractive to the overflowing goodness of God. If yes, please ensure you always see God in His Word (John 1:1); look up unto Him continually (Psalm 121:1-8), and by all means, act on His Word regularly to experience His goodness in the land of the living (Mark 5:22-43).

Remembering God’s Faithfulness

In addition, we must always remember God’s goodness and faithfulness to us, so that we won’t become hard-hearted and stiff-necked, like the Israelites when they forgot God in spite of His incredible miracles they had enjoyed afore-times (Hebrews 3:8). What a deadly trap ingratitude could be!

Occasionally, your mind may wander around some negative things going on in your life. But, if you’ll stop a while and count your many blessings, you’ll realize that God is very faithful, and His goodness is very tasteful to those who have truly believed to enjoy it (Psalms 34:8).

Friends and brethren, no matter what, never give in to fear or worry. God remains our Good Provider (Hebrews 13:8). He chose us, raised us up and He’s daily preserving us from the present dangers in this wicked world. Believe and trust Him still, He is ever faithful!

In conclusion, never forget that God is omni-benevolent. Don’t be tempted to stagger in your faith (Mark 11:23; Romans 4:18-25). Whatever appears impossible in your life today shall soon become a testimony, and the present obstacles standing in your way to progress shall soon be swallowed up in victory, in Jesus name. Amen. Happy Sunday!
