The altercation between the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state and that of his predecessor, Mr Abiola Ajimobi may not end soon, as officials of the last administration Friday, fingered a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Mr. Adebisi Olopoeniyan, as mastermind of recent surge in the hijack and recovery of alleged stolen government vehicles.
The aides at a press conference in Ibadan, warned Mr Makinde to desist from empowering people they referred to as "touts" from carrying out such nefarious hijacking of vehicles across the land.
The aides, led by the former Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Adeniyi Olowofela; former Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr Bolaji Tunji and a former Special Assistant, Mr Abiodun Ambali, insisted there was the need for them to react to the missing vehicles and much hyped N150 billion debt they claimed Ajimobi incurred.
They said Debt Management Office had put the debt profile of the state at about N94 billion, saying the allegations so far, were unfounded and a mere cheap propaganda by Makinde's government to destroy worthy legacies of the last administration.
But in a swift reaction, Olopoeniyan described Ajimobi's aides as 'shameless', saying "these people were in government from May 29, 2011 till May 29, 2019 and yet they were not satisfied with all the booties in their care and pecks they derived so far from holding positions of authority."
He said, "I can't deny that government stolen vehicles carted away by them are being recovered daily, let them keep quiet or we will be forced to expose their atrocities further.
"If the government house was possible to cart away, these people would have done so. The level of their alleged theft of government property was mind boggling. They ought to have approached the police to invite me for the said robbery.
"They are shameless set of people. If I truly I was fingered as the mastermind of the recovery of government vehicles from where they were packed, let them go and report to the police.
"As a professor, who alleged such plot against my personality, he ought to know that only the truth is constant. And I dare say his academic records need to be examined for having the audacity to raise allegation that the vehicles they stole were being forcefully hijacked from them."
Makinde had raised the alarm that officials of the last administration emptied the state transport pool, making it difficult for his government to work because vehicles had been carted away.
Ajimobi however had in a swift reaction, described the issue of missing vehicles as mundane, urging Makinde to face the issue of governance head on.
The aides in the press statement entitled, "Enough of lies, propaganda and outright falsehood", advised Makinde to desist from these deliberate campaign of calumny as this could lead to the breakdown of law and order which we had hitherto enjoyed in the last eight years.
They also called on Makinde to squarely face the serious task of governance instead of embarking on the mundane attempt to malign his predecessor-in-office and paint him and his aides in bad light among the populace.
