Southwest Houses of Assembly pass Amotekun bill

Ogun House of Assembly yesterday passed the state’s Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps Bill, barely 19 days after receiving the piece of legislation from the executive arm of government, as part of its determination to stem criminality in the state.

The bill titled: “HB No. 35/OG/2020- “A Bill for a law to establish the Ogun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps to Assist in Maintaining Law and Order in the State and Connected Purposes” was passed during a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr Olakunle Oluomo, following the presentation of a report of the Special Ad-hoc Committee on Security and Strategy by Majority Leader, Mr Yusuf Sherif.

Sherif thereafter moved the motion for the adoption of the report, which was seconded by Musefiu Lamidi and supported by the whole House through a voice-vote after which the bill was later read and adopted clause-by-clause by the committee of the whole House. Oluomo thereafter directed that the clean copy of the bill be forwarded to the Governor, Mr Dapo Abiodun, for his assent.

In the same vein, Oyo State House of Assembly has passed the state Security Network Agency Bill, otherwise known as Amotekun Corps, into law at a colourful plenary where they all wore Aso-Ebi clothe with Amotekun picture printed on it.

The bill was passed after it scaled through the third reading at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin, which was also overwhelmingly attended by lawmakers. Clerk of the House and other members of staff at the plenary also adorned the same uniform clothes with the lawmakers.

Also, Osun State House of Assembly has passed the South-West Security Network and Amotekun Corps Bill 2020 into law.The bill, having gone through needed legislative procedure, scaled through yesterday after some amendments and corrections.

The Speaker, Mr Timothy Owoeye, said that the House having considered the grey areas now passed the bill into law for the assent of the state governor.

Similarly, Ondo State House of Assembly has passed the bill to establish the State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps into law, assuring that it would help to protect the lives and property of the people in the state.

Shortly after the Clerk of the House, Mr. Bode Adeyelu, read the bill for third reading, the Majority Leader, Jamiu Maito, moved the motion for its passage and was seconded by the Deputy Minority Leader, Mr Leonard Akinribido.

Lagos State House of Assembly also unanimously passed the bill on Amotekun.The bill was passed after its third reading.
