Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has summoned an emergency meeting with first class traditional rulers of the state. The governor summoned the meeting to fashion out how to address the accommodation for and upkeep of the deposed Emir of Kano, Mr Muhammadu Sanusi II.

After his deposition, Sanusi was taken to Loko in Nasarawa state. Loko is a border town between Nasarawa and Benue States.

The deposition script handed down by Kano state government would have had Sanusi spend the rest of his days in Loko community.

With its harsh weather, bad roads, lack of electricity and susceptibility to attacks by armed criminals, Loko appeared the perfect setting for a vindictive plot against Sanusi.

Barely 12 hours after he arrived in Loko, a police helicopter at about 1:45 p.m. yesterday flew the former emir to Lafia, Nasarawa State capital, amid tight security.

Emirs expected at the meeting are Emir of Lafia, Mr Sidi Dauda Bage, a retired justice of the Supreme Court, and Emir of Keffi, Mr Shehu Chindo Yamusa III.

Mr Sule is from a royal background as his father, Mr Sule Bawa, is a third class status chief of Gudi, a railway station in Akwanga Local Government.

According to a source who preferred anonymity “the deposed emir was scheduled to be exiled from Kano to Opanda town in Toto Local Government but there was a change of decision at the last minute.

“Notable Nigerians like the Emir of Lafia, personally met Sule and requested for a change of location. Others who called the governor to work out a more comfortable arrangement for Sanusi were Africa’s richest person, Mr Aliko Dangote and former National Security Adviser, Mr Aliyu Gusau amongst others,” the source said.

It would be recalled that deposed Emir of Gwandu in Kebbi State, Mr Al-Mustapha Jokola, was exiled to Obi Local Government of Nasarawa State when he was dethroned.
