Seven killed as bandits attack Katsina communities

Bandits have allegedly killed seven persons in another round of attacks in Kasai and Nahuta villages in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Residents said the attacks were carried out Friday night when people in the two communities were about observing prayers.

A resident of a nearby community, Kurmiyal who identified himself as Sama’ila Lihidda, said the suspected bandits stormed the two communities on motorcycles, armed with weapons.

He said they were just shooting at every available object, adding that many residents escaped to the nearby communities while some passed the night inside the bush.

Lihidda revealed, “Upon their arrival on motorcycles, the bandits armed with guns, opened fire, shooting indiscriminately at any available object. Many people fled to nearby communities while some slept inside the bush that night.

“In Kasai community alone, two persons were killed and five killed in Nahuta community with several others injured.”

Spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, Mr Gambo Isah, said he should be given time to clarify the development from DPO, Batsari, and promised to get back.

Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Masari on security, Mr Ahmad Katsina could not be reached for comments as of the time of filing this report.

PUNCH had reported that National Security Adviser, Mr Babagana Mungono, on Wednesday led a five-member federal government team to a closed-door meeting with Governor Aminu Masari over the current killings in the state.

Others at the meeting which was held for almost two hours at the Government House, Katsina were the Inspector -General of Police, Mr Muhammad Adamu; Director-General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mr Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar; Director-General of Department of State Security Services (DSS) Mr Yusuf Magaji Bichi and the chief of Defense Intelligence Agency, Mr M.S Usman.

Youths in Katsina and in other parts of the state including Yantumaki, Yankara, and Yangaya, have recently staged protests against the killings in the state.
