Management of Kano State Internal Revenue Service has sacked 368 employees, comprising 308 workers and 60 consultants.

When confronted to justify his actions on Wednesday, Executive Chairman of KIRS, Mr Bala Inuwa, attributed the development to the rapidly dwindling fortunes of the service, due to the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic, which had crippled commercial and economic activities in the country.

According to him, prior to the advent of coronavirus, KSIRS was raking in about N2 billion monthly, regretting that to date, its earnings have nosedived to an all time low of between N500 million and N700 million monthly.

In such a situation, he argued that the wise decision to adopt, in order to remain afloat, was to shed weight, adding that this development, informed the decision of the management to retrench workers temporarily.

Inuwa, however, promised that the 308 temporary workers would be reabsorbed, as soon as the revenue earning capacity of KIRS improved.
