Policeman killed, others injured as gunmen invade Ibadan police station

A police corporal was reportedly shot dead after gunmen invaded a police station at Ikolaba area of Ibadan, Oyo state capital, on Friday.

The deceased was among officers on duty when the attackers struck.

Some other police officers were said to have sustained injuries in the incident which took the policemen by surprise.

Police public relations officer in the state, Mr Gbenga Fadyei, confirmed the incident but did not give details.

He said policemen had been deployed in the area and normalcy has been restored.

It is not clear those who launched the attack but Fadeyi said investigation is ongoing.

The attack happened at a time when efforts are being put in place to check the rising insecurity across the country.

On Thursday, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo announced that federal government had approved N13 billion for the take off of community policing.
