Security operatives yesterday raided the Abuja residence of former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan. Another source said the house belonged to the brother of Mrs. Jonathan.

The source added that Mrs. Jonathan bought the property for her younger brother. New Telegraph gathered that heavily armed policemen stormed the Maitama residence of the Jonathans in the evening.

The house is located along Igbeti Rock Street, Maitama. The operatives, who were said to have numbered about 20, came in Hilux vans, as well as a Toyota Hiace Bus.

A source close to the Jonathan’s family who spoke on the condition of anonymity told New Telegraph that a raid actually took place on a compound belonging to a relative of the former former first family.

He said the motive of the security operatives who carried out the raid was yet to be ascertained.

The source said the operation was carried out by the Police who broke the doors into the building.

The operatives were said to have searched all the rooms in the house, including ceiling. It was further gathered that the operation, which commenced about 5p.m. did not last too long, as nobody except the security guard was at home as at the time of the operation.

But the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Don Awunah, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), denied knowledge of any operation by men of the Force.

“I’m not aware of any operation by our men in a house in Maitama that belongs to the brother of former First Lady. I have been asking questions,” the FPRO said.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which has been investigating the former First Lady, also denied that its operatives conducted any search on the said residence.

When contacted for comments, its spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, simply said: “There is nothing like that.”

The EFCC has frozen several accounts allegedly linked to the former First Lady, who had petitioned the House of Representatives, alleging harassment by the antigraft agency.
