There are indications that President Muhammadu Buhari has re-submitted the name of the embattled Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu to the Senate for confirmation.

A close associate of the Acting EFCC chairman revealed this to Sunday Telegraph, saying that the action was based on report that Magu was cleared of any wrongdoing by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

On the allegation of financial impropriety leveled against Magu by the Department of State Services, (DSS), and the Senate’s failure to clear him during his screening, the Presidency had set up a committee headed by the Minister of Justice to investigate allegations against the EFCC Acting Chairman.

If Magu is eventually cleared, he would be the fourth substantive chairman of EFCC.

The first chairman of the Commission was, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, followed by Mrs Farida Waziri and Mr Ibrahim Lamonde.

The source, however did not state when Magu would re-appear before the Senate, but hinted that hopefully it would be before the end of the February.

The re-submission of his name to the Senate might not be unconnected to the thaw in relations between the Executive, the Legislature and the lational leadership of the All Progressives Congress.

Both the national leadership of APC and the APC Caucus of the Senate have agreed that the Senate and the National Assembly in general should work in harmony with the Executive.

It would be recalled that the former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume had alleged that he was removed because of his stance on his colleagues' refusal to confirm Magu as EFCC chairman.
