LAUTECH: Group appeals to Mgt, ASUU to settle their differences

A group, Oyo Patriotic Front (OPF), has said that its earlier statement calling on the management of Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) and unions in the institutions especially members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to resolve their differences and allow academic activities to resume in the school has been vindicated based on the media report credited to ASUU that their grouse was beyond salary agitation.

The socio-cultural group in a statement by its Chairman, Chief Jare Adepoju on Tuesday noted that the statement by ASUU put to fore and shed light on the crisis in the Oyo and Osun State Governments’ owned university.

Chief Adepoju said that ASUU’s statement has shown that LAUTECH crisis is beyond salary, adding that the management and the unions in the school should consider the interest of the students in their actions.

The group’s chairman noted that ASUU’s grievances are justified and they are at liberty to decide what will enhance the welfare of their members, urging that ASUU members should work with the resumption date of January 27, 2017 as announced by the LAUTECH management.

“We understand that the owners’ state governments and the management of LAUTECH might not have met the requirements of the unions in the school, especially ASUU. However, we want to appeal to them once again to sheathe their swords and allow peace to reign.

“The students have been home for over eight months. We appreciate Oyo and Osun state governments for coughing out the N500million promised the institution despite the present state of their finances.

"We should remember that these states are being affected with the economic recession like some other states too.

"Their gesture should be appreciated and ASUU should consider the interest of the students."

Chief Adepoju urged well-meaning individuals to join hands in appealing to LAUTECH ASUU to resume work and allow academic activities to continue in the institution, saying that this gesture will go a long way in safe-guarding the future of the students of the institutions.
