Gunmen kidnap worshippers attending Jumat prayers in Zamfara mosque

Gunmen kidnapped dozens of worshippers attending Friday afternoon prayers at a mosque in Nigeria's Northwestern state of Zamfara, police and witnesses said. Armed gangs are rife across Nigeria's Northwest where they rob or kidnap for ransom, and violence has been increasing, where thinly stretched security forces often fail to stop the attacks. A judge on Monday rejected a request by the federal government to extradite a suspended police chief to the United States to face charges linked to fraud. Gunmen have abducted four reverend sisters of the Catholic Church along Okigwe- Umulolo Road in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria’s Southeast. Gunmen storm hotel in Somali capital, leave 20 dead

Islamic militants have stormed a hotel in Somalia’s capital, engaging in an hours-long exchange of fire with the security forces that left at least 20 people dead, according to police and witnesses. Hackers steal $1.9bn cryptocurrency in 7 months - Report

Losses arising from cryptocurrency hacks jumped nearly 60% in the first seven months of the year to $1.9 billion, propelled by a surge in funds stolen from decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, according to a blog post from blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis released on Tuesday. In the same period last year, stolen funds from hacking amounted to $1.2 billion. A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced a kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala, also known as Wadume, and two others, to seven years’ imprisonment.
