Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday secured the conviction of a former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State, Magaji Garba. The anti-graft agency, in a statement, noted that Maryam Aliyu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Garki, Abuja, found him guilty of five counts bordering on obtaining money by false pretences and forgery, and sentenced him to 35 years in jail. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said weapons being used for the war in Ukraine and Russia were filtering into the Lake Chad and Sahel regions. Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says Usman Baba, the inspector-general of police (IGP), was “not aware” of a previous court order on the reinstatement of a former police officer. On Tuesday, a federal high court in Abuja sentenced Baba to three months in prison for disobeying a court order directing the reinstatement of Patrick Okoli, a former officer who claimed he was unlawfully and compulsorily retired from the NPF. Cult clash claims six lives in Anambra

No fewer than six persons have been killed in Awka, Anambra State capital by suspected gunmen. The incident took place early hours of Saturday, along the popular Zik Avenue and its environs. More than 100 people, including women and children were abducted when gunmen raided four villages in Zamfara state on Sunday, the information commissioner and residents said on Monday. Kidnapping has become endemic in northwest Nigeria as roving gangs of armed men abduct people from villages, highways and farms and demand ransom money from their relatives. Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) says two medical doctors have been abducted by gunmen in Cross River. According to NAN, Felix Archibong, state’s chairman of NMA, confirmed the development on Saturday in Calabar, the Cross River capital. Archibong said the medical doctors, who are members of the association, were kidnapped on Friday at the Ikomita area of the Calabar-Ikom highway.
