Again, gunmen kill five soldiers in Anambra

Gunmen have killed five soldiers in Umunze, a community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria’s Southeast. The incident happened on Wednesday at about 12:30 p.m. beside a branch of the Zenith Bank, close to the popular Nkwo Umunze market in the area. The gunmen were said to have opened fire on the soldiers who were in their Sienna patrol vehicle, killing five of them in the attack. Police in Oyo State have launched a full scale investigation into the attack on its Divisional Police Headquarters at Iganna in Iwajowa Local Government Area of the State. Two persons including a police officer were killed on Tuesday night. The command vowed “to make examples of the masterminds of the unfortunate incident”, adding that an arrest had already been made. Residents of Ruwan Jema, a community in Bukkuyum area of Zamfara State said terrorists attacked a Jum’at mosque on Friday and killed 18 people. Multiple local sources reported that the attack began a few minutes after 1 p.m. and lasted for over an hour. The attack was suspected to have been carried by terrorists from either the Dogo Gudale gang or Shadari gang, which are based in the nearby Gando forest. Italian energy group Eni said on Thursday its Ogboinbiri gas pipeline in Bayelsa state had been vandalised, causing a leak and production losses. A spokesperson for Eni said "third parties" had cut the pipeline with hacksaw. "The line is depressurized and is currently being repaired. Production losses due to the shutdown are important," the spokesperson said. Oil and gas output in Nigeria have fallen due to theft and vandalism of pipelines, leaving gas producer Nigeria LNG Ltd's terminal at Bonny Island operating at 60% capacity. National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has seized 1.8 tonnes of cocaine worth “N194 billion” in Lagos state. In a statement on Monday, Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s media director, said the drugs were seized from a warehouse in the Ikorodu area of Lagos. Scores of bandits have been reportedly killed in an operation by troops of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Zamfara state. Bello Turji, a bandit kingpin, was said to have escaped. The Court of Appeal on Tuesday reserved judgment after separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu sought to have charges of terrorism and broadcasting falsehoods against him dropped, his lawyers said.
