The ageism problem hurting young workers

Leia was fresh out of college when began working as a member of a business-development team at a mid-size tech company. Though her skills had earned her the job, she was the youngest person in the team. “Everybody else was pretty much twice my age,” she says. Leia went into the job with gusto, identifying inefficiencies and suggesting how to streamline things. Some of those working above her didn’t like that. “I exhibited ‘too much ambition’ in the eyes of my superiors,” she says. “I heard about comments being made behind my back. There were a couple times when my…
Federal government has given Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) the green light to acquire a 20% stake in Dangote’s oil refinery for $2.76 billion, junior oil minister Timipre Sylva said on Wednesday. The 650,000-barrel-per-day oil refinery, owned by Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, is under construction in Lagos, the biggest city in the most fuel-consuming nation in the region. The refinery is scheduled for commissioning by January. Sylva said the government approved NNPC’s acquisition at a Cabinet meeting, he told reporters in Abuja, adding that the country also awarded contracts for the modernisation of two state-owned refineries. NNPC had said…
A courageous way to avoid sabotaging your success and destroying your reputation. Vote counts, pandemic stats, vaccination hesitancy. Fact-based consensus--commonly called truth--has become a gobsmackingly rare commodity in this divisive world of multiple and opposing "truths." In the business world, today's quicksilver fluidity of "truth" has become a license to fake it till you make it for many in leadership roles. But others see the honesty shortage as a remarkable business opportunity. When the demand for a valued good…

Every person is a world. Life at work, in business and even in the family is full of complex relationships, where each person has their own agenda, their own history and particular dimensions. As we have seen previously, the projects that go ahead are not always the best; And those people who are right are not the ones who win the discussions, because the most important element in a communication process is not the content or the technique but, above all, the relationship and connection. To be completely clear: your success doesn't just depend on your talents or your ideas;…
