Buhari approves Onnoghen’s retirement; to appoint 5 more justices to Supreme Court

President Muhammadu Buhari has written acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mr Tanko Muhammad, to initiate the process of appointing five new justices of the Supreme Court. The President’s decision was made public on Sunday in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu. Buhari also stated that he welcomed the voluntary retirement of Mr Walter Onnoghen, the former CJN, from service. Saraki donates severance allowance to Leah Sharibu’s family, others

President of the Eighth Senate, Mr Bukola Saraki, has asked National Assembly management to distribute his severance allowance to families of three victims of the insurgency in the North-East geopolitical zone being perpetrated by Boko Haram. Empty streets in Sudan as protesters call out workers for general strike

Shops were closed and streets were empty across Sudan on Sunday, the first day of a general strike called for the start of the workweek by protest leaders demanding the resignation of the ruling military council. 24 hrs after backing off senate presidency race, EFCC withdraws from Goje’s N25bn fraud case

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn from N25 billion fraud filed against Mr Danjuma Goje, former governor of state. The case, which has been on for close to eight years, has been handed over to the office of Attorney-General of the federation. In sharp rebuke of INEC, court orders issuance of certificate of return to Okorocha

An Abuja Division of Federal High Court has nullified the decision of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to refuse to present former Imo State governor, Mr Rochas Okorocha, with a certificate of return as senator-elect.
