Garrison Commander of 2 Division of Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Mr Oluyinka Soyele, a Brigadier General, has stated the commitment of Nigerian Army at ensuring that its men and officers attain optimum performance in combat.

He gave the commitment in his address at the opening of 2 Division Nigerian Army Inter - Brigade Quater Guard Competition held at 2 Division Garrison in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

According to him, the Inter Brigade Quarter Guard competition "is purposefully done "to promote and imbibe the spirit of team work, regimentation and discipline in the troops .

“The Quarter Guard Drill competition is a team work centered on alertness and obedience to command. There are basic requirements for individuals and group survival. A soldier that is always alert and obeys orders as expected will remain a professional model and an assets to every command", he said.

Soyele added that the Inter Brigade Quarter Guard competition was purposely designed to come just before the Cpls and Below Combat proficiency competition which is still going to be hosted by the formation next week.

The Garrison Commander pointed out that this is purposefully done so that the spirit of team work, regimentation and discipline would be imbued in the troops, as a prelude for the success in the forthcoming combatant proficiency competition.

While lauding General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Mr Okudile Fidels Azinta, a Major General, and his Staff Officers for identifying the urgent need to sustain regimentation in the Division, he urged all the competing formations to see the competition as a training activity of the Division and the Nigerian Army aimed at attaining optimum performance in combat.
