Civil servants in Oyo state, in compliance with the directive of the state chapter of tNigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Friday embarked on an indefinite strike.

Following the strike, activities were completely paralysed at the state government secretariat, Ibadan, housing many of the ministries and parastatals.

Gate to the secretariat was half locked as workers stayed away from their various offices within the secretariat with only security guards attached to the secretariat sighted around.

Also, all  public schools across the state both primary and secondary schools were shut down in compliance with the strike

However many of  the striking workers thronged the state NLC secretariat, awaiting update on the strike from their leaders monitoring the strike.

It will be recalled that Oyo NLC  in a memo  released late Thursday to all its

members and its affiliate unions, mandated them to commence strike with immediate effect.

In the memo signed by the state Secretary of NLC, Mr Mohamed Ibrahim, the union declared that the strike would be in force until further notice.

In  the three-paragraph statement titled, "Commencement of indefinite strike", Oyo NLC said, "it is highly unfortunate that the state government has decided to write us without finding concrete solutions to the deteriorating plight of workers of Oyo state.

"Consequently, in line with the notice earlier served on the government, all workers should embark on an indefinite strike from midnightof Thursday, 23 May 2019 . The strike will remain in force until further directives are conveyed,"
