Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr Mele Kyari has said federal government was able to save over $400 million (N152 billion) following the removal of its fuel subsidy policy in 2020. Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) on Saturday clarified that the stamp duty payable on rent or lease agreement for a period below seven years is 0.78 per cent. The tax service gave the clarification following the controversy that has trailed the new stamp duty policy on rent and lease agreements in the country announced on Wednesday. FIRS in its announcement directed landlords and property agents to charge stamp duty on all tenancy and lease agreements with tenants and property buyers and remit same to the Service. A meeting between federal and state governments to discuss modalities for resumption of schools will hold today (Monday). Minister of Aviation, Mr Hadi Sirika, Sunday announced that 14 airports across the country have resumed full domestic flight operations. Sirika, who made this announcement on his Twitter handle @hadisirika, said that ministerial approvals in and out of those airports were not required. Ministry of Defence together with the Defence Headquarters, the army, navy and air force got over N238 billion in 2018 and 2019 to fight insecurity and implement their programmes and operations, according to reports from the Budget Office of the Federation. For managing its largest overseas cash disbursement of $45 million well, United States Navy has honoured a Nigerian-born officer, Mr Victor Agunbiade with the Navy and Marine Corps Development Medal. Minister of Communications, Mr Isa Pantami, has said that imposing licensing fees on courier companies was not part of the guidelines he earlier approved for Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST). Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has threatened to resume its suspended industrial action on August 17 if federal government does not meet its demand. Torrential rains that started at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday night and lasted several hours have killed seven people in Rafin Sanyi area of Suleja Local Government Area of Niger. The value of petroleum imports into Nigeria exceeded the value of exports by $58.5 billion within a five-year period, latest figures from Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries have shown. In its 2020 OPEC Annual Statistical Bulletin released, the oil cartel said Nigeria’s petroleum imports from 2015 to 2019 was valued at $264.57 billion, while its exports during the same period was $206.07 billion. The country exported $41.17bn, $27.29bn and $37.98bn worth of petroleum exports in 2015, 2016 and 2017 respectively.
