Oyo cancels third term for schools, announces resumption date

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Tuesday, announced cancellation of third term for pupils in both primary and secondary schools in the state. Mr Makinde, who announced this through his education commissioner, Mr Olasunkanmi Olaleye also released a new academic calendar. Olaleye said third term of the 2019/2020 session has been cancelled and promotion of students, for all affected classes, will now be determined by first and second term continuous assessment. IGP appoints new police commissioners for Cross River, three others

Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu, has appointed new police commissioners for Bayelsa, Cross River, Ekiti and Ogun states. Benue approves recruitment of 2,300 for community policing

Benue State Security Council has approved recruitment of 2,300 persons for community policing and 460 as community volunteer guards, also known as vigilante, to complement efforts of conventional security agencies. Governor Samuel Ortom, who presided over the council’s meeting, told newsmen that the decision was in line with the resolution reached at the North Central Security meeting held in Lafia, Nasarawa State, in January this year, at the instance of the Inspector General of Police (IGP). Nine soldiers killed in Colombia helicopter crash

Colombian army said nine soldiers were killed and six wounded after a military helicopter went down Tuesday in the country's southeast during an operation against guerrillas. The Black Hawk helicopter went down with 17 people aboard on a stretch of the Inirida River, in the country's southeastern Guaviare jungle region. People more likely to contract Covid-19 at home, study finds

South Korean epidemiologists have found that people were more likely to contract the new coronavirus from members of their own households than from contacts outside the home. A study published in the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on July 16 looked in detail at 5,706 "index patients" who had tested positive for coronavirus and more than 59,000 people who came into contact with them. FG approves establishment of infrastructure devt firm, says CBN gov

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is to establish an Infrastructure Development Company, its governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, disclosed on Monday in Abuja. Police promote over 40,000 personnel - IGP

FG, states, LGs share N651bn as revenues increased ‘significantly’ in June

The balance in Nigeria’s Excess Crude Account (ECA) rose to $72.407 million in June, just as Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) said it shared N651.184 billion for the month. The balance in ECA for the month increased by $186,000, from about $72.2 million recorded last month. Another N45 billion was transferred to the excess non-oil revenue account.
