12 EFCC Directors suspended

Twelve directors of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have been suspended. On Tuesday, Attorney-general of the federation (AGF), Mr Abubakar Malami, sent a letter to acting EFCC chairman, Mr Mohammed Umar, notifying him of the suspension of the directors. Some of the directors affected by the action have been involved in investigating Malami — though the office of the AGF linked the exercise to the probe of Mr Ibrahim Magu, the suspended acting chairman of the anti-graft agency. Magu released from detention

Suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu, has regained freedom from police custody after 10 days in detention. Magu, arrested on July 6 was released from detention on Wednesday. President Muhammadu Buhari constituted Mr Ayo Salami-led panel holding its sittings at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to probe various allegations levelled against Magu, following petitions by Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, and Department of State Service (DSS). To tackle the acute shortage of doctors in all the state-owned health facilities, Lagos State Government yesterday opened its portal for the recruitments of 700 doctors and other health workers. The exercise was to fill the vacant positions in its 27 General Hospitals for efficient healthcare delivery. Senate on Wednesday urged Federal Government to raise the age limit usually attached to job vacancies in the country. The call by Senate followed its consideration of a motion titled: “Urgent need to review age barrier during recruitment and employment” sponsored by Mr Ibrahim Gobir (Sokoto East). Supreme court has struck out two different suits challenging the conduct of virtual court proceedings in Nigeria. In the suit marked SC/CV/260/2020, attorney-general (AG) of Lagos state, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo, asked the court to determine if cases heard over digital platforms are constitutional. Nigeria’s immediate past President, Mr Goodluck Jonathan has been appointed by Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, as a special envoy to lead the sub-regional body’s mediation mission in Mali. Federal government has kicked off the special public works programme suspended by the national assembly. The government announced the take-off via its official Twitter handle on Tuesday. The programme, which is coordinated by ministry of labour and employment, was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari as a part of the fiscal stimulus measures in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
