Medical doctors in Lagos on Sunday declared a three-day warning strike over the state government’s failure to meet their demands. The doctors under the auspices of Medical Guild are striking over wage disparity between the Federal and Lagos state doctors, Covid-19 Hazard allowances and inducement allowances MOU approved by Federal Government, non-payment of doctors working in isolation centre as well as unceremoniously disengagement of doctors in the isolation centres without recourse to their welfare. Police at the weekend disbanded all satellite offices and bases of Intelligence Response Squad (IRT) and Special Tactical Squad (STS). The directive followed moves by the Force Headquarters to reposition the police and ensure accountability as well as due process. No fewer than 356 soldiers in the North-East and other theatres of operation have applied to Chief of Army Staff, Mr Tukur Buratai, for voluntary retirement, citing “loss of interest” as their reason for disengagement. The soldiers wrote to the army chief on July 3, 2020, under Reference NA/COAS/001, quoting the Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service soldiers/rating/airmen (Revised) 2017. Nigeria’s total public debt portfolio, all the states and federal government inclusive, stood at N28.63 trillion as at March 31 this year. According to Nigerian Domestic and Foreign Debt Q1 2020 report released yesterday by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the total public debt rose by 4.48 per cent compared to the N27.40 trillion recorded in Q4 2019.
