Reps set to review legislative agenda, announce ad-hoc committee

Speaker of House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila has announced an ad-hoc committee to review the legislative agenda of the 9th House of Representatives, stating that it is imperative, considering prevailing realities. The committee is to be chaired by, Mr Julius Ihonvbere, a professor and lawmaker representing Owan Federal Constituency. The speaker made this known during plenary on Tuesday. FG sacks NECO registrar, senior officials for financial misconduct

Federal government has approved termination of the appointment of Mr Charles Uwakwe as Registrar and Chief Executive of National Examinations Council (NECO). Federal government also dismissed four members of NECO management for various offences bordering on financial impropriety. Affected officers include Acting Director (Finance and Accounts), Bamidele Olure; Head of Procurement Division, Shina Adetona; Deputy Director Tayo Odukoya, and Head of Legal/Board matters, Babatunde Aina. Bauchi eases lockdown, lifts ban on religious activities

Bauchi State Government has reviewed its partial lockdown by lifting ban on religious gathering especially Friday prayers and church services. Buhari to security agencies: Essential workers exempted from curfew; IGP to police officers: Don’t exempt anyone from curfew

Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu contrary to the directive by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, ordered police commands not to exempt anybody, including workers on essential duties, when enforcing the ban on interstate movements and the nationwide curfew. Federal Government has removed Managing Director of Transmission Company of Nigeria, Mr Usman Gur Mohammed, from office. Minister of Power, Mr Mohammed Sale, approved Mohammed’s sack on Tuesday. FG’s agency to slash workers’ salaries from May

Following dwindling revenues occasioned by Covid-19 pandemic, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has said it may not be able to pay full salary of staff as from May 2020 until the industry returns to normalcy. Buhari appoints new chairman for TETFUND BoT

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman, board of trustees (BoT) of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND). Mr Adama Adamu, minister of education, broke news of the appointment in a letter obtained by reporters on Monday. According to the letter, Ibrahim-Imam’s appointment was effective from May 14, 2020. Federal High Court adopts virtual proceedings, lists conditions

Federal High Court (FHC) on Monday directed judges of its various judicial divisions to adopt virtual proceedings for court cases. Chief Judge of the FHC, Mr John Tsoho, issued the directive in the new 2020 Practice Directions for the Covid-19 period dated May 18. The directive, however, provides that proceedings can only be held virtually with the consent of the parties and their counsel. Also, under the new rules, FHC judges cannot hear more than nine cases daily. Ganduje cancels Eid-el-Fitr festivities, permits Eid prayers

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has ordered cancellation of Eid-el-Fitr festivities including Hawan Sallah to mark the end of Muslim Ramadan fasting. The Governor however granted the conduct of Eid congregational prayers across the state.
