A government official said at least seven people had been killed and nearly 200 injured during the demonstrations. The protests came amid a weekslong standoff between the ruling military council and protest leaders. Talks between the two sides over a power-sharing agreement collapsed earlier this month when security forces violently broke up a protest camp in Khartoum. The ensuing clampdown resulted in at least 128 people…

Both countries agreed to set up teams to resume stalled nuclear talks. Their last summit broke down in February with no progress on denuclearisation in North Korea. Critics have dismissed the occasion - the two leaders' third face-to-face encounter in just over a year - as a political theatre and say…

A former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Mr Jonathan Asake, said the new move to create Ruga settlements in some parts of the country was an attempt to “Fulanise” the country. Asake, a member of House of Representatives between 2011 and 2015, said this during an interview on Channels Television’sSunrise Daily on Friday. He said the term ‘Ruga’ is a Fulani word and it was thus hypocritical of anyone to say it would not be exclusive to Fulani when implemented. Asake, who is from Southern Kaduna, said in 1987, Kaduna State Government approved Ruga settlements for the old…
