Traders block Abuja Airport Road over market demolition

Angry traders on Saturday blocked Umaru Yar’Adua Expressway over the demolition of Gosa Market along Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport area. The traders made bonfires on both sides of the road and prevented motorists and travellers from using the highway, leading to a long queue of vehicles. Our correspondent learnt that officials of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) had stormed the market earlier in the day with armed policemen and pulled down open stalls and other structures in the market. Taraba CAN chairman killed in motor accident

Mr Ben Ubeh, chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Taraba State, has died after being crushed by a truck conveying goods along Jalingo-Yola Expressway. The incident occurred on Sunday morning in Zing, a community along the expressway, witnesses said. An official of the state government confirmed Ubeh died from the accident and that the state would soon release a statement on it. Oyo offers free TB treatment for residents

Funmi Olaitan, Ibadan Oyo State government has offered free screening and treatment in all its health facilities across the state for individuals with persistent cough suspected to be Tuberculosis (TB). President, Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), Mr Idowu Sofola is dead. He died in Lagos on Friday, aged 84, according to Secretary General of the YCE, Mr Kunle Olajide. The prominent jurist, bencher and former President of Nigerian Bar Association took over from Mr Adeyinka Adebayo, who died last year.
