Passengers on two aircraft belonging to Nigeria’s largest airline, Arik Air, had their flights disrupted on Sunday following incidences at the Lagos and Owerri airports. It was gathered that a Port Harcourt-bound flight was disrupted in Lagos after the scheduled aircraft was hit by a truck at Lagos airport. Another aircraft could not take off in Owerri as it was grounded shortly before take-off at the airport. It was also gathered that the airline’s Bombardier CRJ900 marked 5N-JEB, operating Owerri-Lagos flight, was grounded at Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, as a result of a technical issue on ground during pre-departure procedure.…
Nigerian security forces were warned about the presence of Boko Haram fighters near the town of Dapchi, but failed to respond, allowing insurgents to kidnap 110 schoolgirls almost unharrassed, Amnesty International said on Tuesday. The kidnapping on Feb. 19 of the girls from Dapchi, aged between 11-19, had echoes of the Islamist insurgency's abduction in 2014 of 276 students from the town of Chibok, which shot Nigeria's conflict with Boko Haram, now nine years old, into the global spotlight. It threatens to be a thorn in the side of President Muhammadu Buhari, whose 2015 electoral victory was built on criticism…
Jama’atu Nasril Islam under the leadership of Sultan of Sokoto, Mr Sa’ad Abubakar lll, has asked the President Muhammadu administration to wake up to its statutory responsibility of protecting lives and property of Nigerians across the country. Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash-lands

A Nigerian Air Force plane has crash-landed in Kaduna. The incident, which happened on Monday, was said to be as…
Saudi women should be free to determine what they wear as long as their attire is "decent and respectful", the kingdom's reform-minded crown prince said. With the ascent to power of young Prince Mohammad bin Salman, the kingdom has seen an expansion in women's rights including a decision to allow women to attend mixed public sporting events and the right to drive cars from this summer. The changes have been hailed as proof of a new progressive trend towards modernisation in the deeply conservative Muslim kingdom, although the gender-segregated nation continues to be criticized for its continued constraints on women.…
Funmi Olaitan, Ibadan Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, on Monday, said School Governing Boards (SGBs) initiated by the state government have injected more than N2bn into the state’s education sector in the last one year. The governor made the disclosure during the foundation laying ceremony of University of Ibadan Alumni Association's guest house extension, held at the university. It would be recalled that SGB is a participatory model, which brings together all stakeholders in the education system in the management of public secondary schools in the state. Ajimobi stated that the state government has also awarded contracts estimated at…
Stephen Hawking may have been misdiagnosed and actually a victim of polio, a US medical expert has suggested. Christopher B Cooper, Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Physiology at the University of California, Los Angeles, said the probability the physicist’s famously debilitating condition was in fact amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) was “low”. He said Hawking’s relatively young age of diagnosis, 21, and his 55-year period of survival does “not match our understanding of ALS”. In a letter to the Financial Times, the medic argued it is more likely Hawking’s neurological and motor system impairment was caused by poliomylitis, of which there…
Defence Minister, Mr Mansur Dan-Ali, has given hopes that the 110 abducted students of Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, might be released by Boko Haram in the next two weeks, noting that the federal government was closing in on them. The minister, who dropped the hint on a live Channels TV programme, Sunrise, weekend, said intelligence reports at his disposal indicated that the girls would soon be released, reinforcing President Muhammadu Buhari’s earlier disclosure that the Federal Government would rather negotiate the release of both Dapchi and Chibok school girls to ensure their safety. Asked to…
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said it will release no fewer than 1.3 million results of candidates that sat for 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination on Monday (today) after they had gone through security checks and found to be without malpractice. JAMB Head of Information, Mr Fabian Benjamin, who stated this on Sunday in an interview with our correspondent, added that UTME results of Computer-Based Test centres where CCTV showed malpractices had been cancelled. The board said CCTV showed “strange things” such as CBT centre owners collecting money from candidates to engage in malpractices and also threatening JAMB officials…
Lawmakers on both sides of the Atlantic criticized Facebook and its chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, after reports surfaced that another company, Cambridge Analytica, improperly harvested information from 50 million Facebook users. A British lawmaker accused Facebook on Sunday of misleading officials by downplaying the risk of users' data being shared without their consent. Conservative legislator Damian Collins, who heads the British Parliament's media committee, said he would ask Zuckerberg or another Facebook executive to appear before his panel, which is investigating disinformation and "fake news." Collins said Facebook has "consistently understated" the risk of data leaks and gave misleading answers…
