No fewer than 21 vehicles were destroyed on Wednesday after a fuel-laden tanker exploded on the FESTAC link bridge in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos State. The fire, which started around 12pm, was also said to have consumed five motorcycles. The fuel-laden truck was ascending the bridge en route from Apple Junction when it suddenly descended. It was gathered that the tank subsequently fell off, spilled its contents on the bridge and went up in flames, which spread to vehicles on the road. JAMB remits N3b more to Federation Account

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has remitted additional N3.6 billion to the treasury, its Registrar, Mr Is-haq Oloyede, has said. He said the N5.2 billion earlier sent to the treasury was not the total money the board actually transferred to the government. He said this during a meeting with Executives of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COESU) in his office in Bwari, Abuja. Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal has ruled that Economic and Financial Crimes Commission does not have powers to investigate or prosecute serving judicial officers except where such officers have been dismissed by National Judicial Council. The judgment was delivered in a suit between EFCC and a judge of the Federal High Court, Hydiazira Nganjiwa. The appellate court’s decision overturned the earlier decision of a high court in Lagos. The prevailing hazy weather over major parts of the country has continued to disrupt flight operations, especially in the southern part of the country. Saudi Arabia has announced it will lift a ban on commercial cinemas that has lasted more than three decades.The ministry of culture and information said it would begin issuing licences immediately and that the first cinemas were expected to open in March 2018. The measure is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Vision 2030 social and economic reform programme. Iraq declares war with Islamic State is over

Iraq has announced that its war against so-called Islamic State (IS) is over. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi told a conference in Baghdad that Iraqi troops were now in complete control of the Iraqi-Syrian border.
