The United States District Court in Northern Illinois has given Chicago State University (CSU) 48 hours starting from Saturday to release President Bola Tinubu’s academic records to an opposition candidate in Nigeria’s February presidential election, Atiku Abubakar. In a ruling delivered on Saturday, the judge, Nancy Maldonado, after dismissing Tinubu’s objection, gave the university until 12 noon on Monday to release the documents to Atiku. Maldonando dismissed Tinubu’s objection to the 20 September decision of a magistrate judge of the court, Jeffery Gilbert. The judge on Saturday fully affirmed Gilbert’s ruling ordering the CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records as…
Presidential Candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has said Nigeria needs political office holders who have identity and authentic credentials. Obi said this in the United States where there is an ongoing case on President Bola Tinubu’s academic record. Recall that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who contested the presidential election on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is digging for the academic and personal records of Tinubu, from Chicago State University (CSU). A court ruled in favour of Atiku, ordering CSU to release Tinubu’s record, but the Nigerian president filed an appeal against this. Speaking…
Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has asked the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago to reject President Bola Tinubu’s objections on an order for Chicago State University (CSU) to release all his academic records not later than October 2. In an application filed at the court on September 27, Atiku rejected Tinubu’s objection and description of his suit as a ‘fishing expedition’ which has no bearing on the presidential election petition case at the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Atiku said contrary to Tinubu’s claims, the demand for the release of…
President Bola Tinubu has filed an appeal against an order of a US court directing the Chicago State University (CSU) to release his academic records to Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP. Abubakar had approached the court, seeking to compel the university to grant his request on the grounds that the documents would strengthen his suit challenging Tinubu’s electoral victory. On September 19, Jeffrey Gilbert, a US magistrate judge, granted the request and ordered CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records within 48 hours. However, on September 21, Tinubu filed a motion seeking to extend the deadline and stay the…
Peoples Democratic Party has demanded an investigation into the fire incident at the supreme court. Fire gutted a section of the apex court on Monday. The fire which started in the office of Ibrahim Saulawa, one of the justices, destroyed some files. Federal Fire Service (FFS) said no casualty was recorded in the incident, noting that firefighters swung into action to contain the outbreak. Debo Ologunagba, PDP spokesperson, said in a statement on Monday evening that the party was “alarmed” by the fire incident, describing it as suspicious. The opposition party demanded an “immediate full-scale” investigation into the fire outbreak…

Judge Nancy Maldonado of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has placed an immediate stay on the release of President Bola Tinubu’s university records after he pleaded severe and irreparable consequences to his life. Tinubu, through his lawyers, begged Maldonado, a district judge, that the September 6 order of Judge Jeffrey Gilbert, a magistrate, should be delayed. The judge agreed that the matter might be too severe for Tinubu to bear and granted a stay until further argument on the matter. ‘This needs to be handled with care,” Maldonado said. The judge gave Tinubu’s lawyers…
Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says the “disparaging words” used by the presidential election petitions tribunal when it upheld the victory of President Bola Tinubu were signs that it was biased against him and his party. Abubakar said the tribunal failed to take into cognisance the “doctrine of legitimate expectation”, which he noted is a reason the verdict affirming Tinubu’s victory should be overturned. On September 6, the tribunal dismissed the petitions filed by the PDP candidate and Peter Obi, standard bearer of the Labour Party (LP). The court ruled that their cases were devoid of…
Nigerian opposition leader Atiku Abubakar has landed a major victory in the United States as part of his ongoing push to demonstrate Bola Tinubu’s ineligibility to be Nigeria’s president. A federal court in Chicago ruled Tuesday night that Chicago State University (CSU) must turn over all records relating to Tinubu to Abubakar within two days, saying the former vice-president has been able to sufficiently satisfy the purpose for seeking the records, according to the ruling seen by Peoples Gazette. Judge Jeffrey Gilbert also ordered a deposition of designated CSU officials within two days after the records have been released, noting…
