Edo crisis: Lawmakers loyal to Oshiomhole impeach speaker

Seventeen members of Edo State House of Assembly loyal to the immediate past National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, on Thursday impeached the Speaker, Mr Frank Okiye, and elected Mr Victor Edoror, as his successor. As early as 7am, there was tension at the Assembly complex in Benin City following the heavy presence of security agents. Edo Assembly impeaches deputy speaker, elects replacement

Deputy speaker of Edo state house of assembly, Mr Yekini Idiaye, has been removed from office. Idiaye was impeached during a session of the house on Wednesday. Subsequently, Mr Roland Asoro, lawmaker representing Orhionmwon II constituency, was elected in the stead of the former deputy speaker. Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Ini Okopido, is dead. Ondo Assembly suspends another lawmaker

The only lawmaker elected on the platform of Zenith Labour Party in the Ondo House of Assembly, Mr Leonard Akinribido, has been suspended. Akinribido, representing Ondo West Constituency 1, was suspended over gross misconduct and use of vulgar words against the Speaker, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun in the Chamber and on WhatsApp platform. End of road for Melaye as Appeal Court dismisses suit against Adeyemi

Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed the appeal by Mr Dino Melaye, challenging election of Mr Smart Adeyemi as winner of the last election in Kogi West Senatorial District. A three-man panel of the court, led by Mr Ibrahim Saulawa, unanimously resolved all seven issues, identified for determination, against the appellant (Melaye). PDP releases schedule for party congresses from wards upward

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has begun preparations for 2023 general election, particularly the presidential election, and set dates for the conduct of congresses across the country. A former Speaker of House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, has defected from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), returning to his former party, All Progressives Congress (APC). Jegede wins PDP guber primary in Ondo

Former commissioner for justice and attorney-general of Ondo state, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, has clinched the ticket of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the October 10 election. Jegede polled 888 votes to defeat Mr Agboola Ajayi, deputy governor of the state, who had 657 votes. Former south-west chairman of the party, Mr Eddy Olafeso, came a distant third with 175 votes. Governor of Ondo state, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has clinched the ticket of All Progressives Congress (APC) for the October 10 gubernatorial election. Ebonyi gov sacks over 1,000 aides

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State on Monday announced sack of more than 1,000 aides for non-performance. Those affected include technical assistants (TAs), senior technical assistants (STAs) and executive assistants (EAs) to the governor. INEC publishes final list of candidates for Edo gov poll

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final list of candidates for the September 19 Governorship Election in Edo State. The commission disclosed this in a statement issued by Mr Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, in Abuja on Saturday. Supreme court dismisses Alaibe’s suit against Bayelsa gov

Supreme court on Tuesday dismissed an appeal filed by Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) governorship aspirant in Bayelsa State, Mr Ndutimi Alaibe, in his bid to unseat Governor Douye Diri.
