Residents flee town as gunmen kill 3 policemen in Delta

Gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) have killed three policemen during an attack on Nsukwa Police Divisional Headquarters, Aniocha South LGA, Delta State. The attackers left with two AK-47 rifles.

It was learnt that the gunmen, who arrived on foot, launched the attack from a thick forest behind the station.

During the attack, launched around 2:30am, on Saturday, suspects being held in the police cell were set free.

A police ASP and a sergeant were killed by the assailants and their corpses burnt. Another policeman, a corporal, was also killed during the shootout.

The incident created unease in Nsukwa as residents reportedly fled the town over the weekend.
