N400m fraud: Court sentences Olisa Metuh to seven years in prison

Mr Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, sentenced a former spokesperson of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mr Olisa Metuh, to 7 years in prison for laundering N400 million. Abang who delivered the judgement had earlier declared Mr Metuh guilty of the seven-count charge, which includes fraudulent receipt of N400 million from Office of the National Security Adviser in November 2014 and use of the money for political activities of PDP and for his personal purposes. NECO sacks another set of 19 workers for certificate forgery

National Examinations Council (NECO) has dismissed 19 of its workers for allegedly forging their certificates. Their dismissal was approved by the council’s Governing Board after approving report of a Staff Certificate Verification Committee it set up at its 52nd regular meeting. NECO’s Head of Information and Public Relations Division, Mr Azeez Sani, announced this in a statement yesterday in Abuja. The statement said the committee wrote the institutions some of the affected workers claimed to have attended and the institutions denied issuing them certificates. Bandits impose curfew on Niger communities, demand petrol as ransom for those kidnapped

Ogun CJ frees 21 inmates from jail

Chief Judge of Ogun State, Mrs Mosunmola Dipeolu, has released 21 inmates from the five Nigeria Correctional Service across the the state. Release of the inmates was part of the quarterly jail delivery exercise of the Chief Judge in accordance with Section 1(1) of the Criminal Justice Release from Custody Special Provision Act. Boko Haram burns army general’s home, police station, church in Adamawa

Suspected members of the Boko Haram sect in gun and pickup trucks have attacked Garkida Community, Gombi Local Council of Adamawa State, burning the town’s police station, church and houses on Friday. Court orders SSS to investigate Bayelsa deputy gov over alleged certificate forgery

An Abuja Area Court in Lugbe has ordered State Security Service the (SSS) to investigate an allegation that Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, forged a National Youth Service Corps certificate. . A former lecturer at University of Lagos, Mr Azeez Baruwa, has been sentenced to 21 years’ imprisonment by Lagos State High Court for raping an 18-year-old admission seeker. Bandits kill 30 persons in two Katsina communities

An armed gang on motorbikes killed at least 30 people in attacks on two villages in Katsina state, police said on Saturday. 16 family members burnt to death by bandits in Kaduna

Sixteen members of same family were burnt to death by bandits who invaded Bakali village in Fatika District, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Gunmen storm ex-ABU VC’s house, abduct daughter

Gunmen on Friday night stormed the residence of a former vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Mr Abdullahi Mustapha, and took away his daughter.
