President Muhammadu Buhari may not send the name of Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen to the Senate for confirmation as Chief Justice of Nigeria until he is given a clean bill in the ongoing investigation of judges by security agencies, THISDAY has learnt. Onnoghen was sworn in as acting Chief Justice of Nigeria November 10, 2016. 1999 constitution stipulates a maximum tenure of three-month in acting capacity. Katsina University says memo on religious groups on campus targeted at Muslims, not Christians

Authorities of the Umaru Yar’Ádua University, Katsina, have denied discriminating against Christian students in the approval granted a students religious association to operate on its campus. Acting Dean of Student Affairs of the University, Sulaiman Kankara, had in a January 17 memo informed students of a new guideline for the registration of clubs and associations in the institution. In the circular, Dr. Kankara indicated that participation in clubs and associations, including departmental ones, were strictly optional and that no student should be compelled to pay dues. Nationwide outage worsens as fire razes TCN control room

Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said on Saturday that a fire incident which occurred at its Afam VI power station in Rivers State had completely destroyed the firm’s protection and control equipment.
