FG pays N157.3bn tax arrears to states

Federal Government has paid N157.35bn Pay-As-You-Earn tax liabilities owed by Federal ministries, departments and agencies to states. Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr Babatunde Fowler, said this on Thursday in Awka, Anambra State. Fowler, who is also Chairman of Joint Tax Board, spoke at the opening of the new National Taxpayer Identification Number Registration System for South-East. The amount, he said, represented outstanding liabilities of PAYE by federal MDAs to state governments from 2002 to 2016. Nigeria Customs Services (NCS) has ramped up efforts to curtail smuggling with a directive to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) and all relevant agencies to suspend fuel supply to petrol stations within 20 kilometres of Nigeria’s borders with neighbouring West African countries. 30 burnt to death in Ife-Ibadan auto crash

About 30 persons were, yesterday burnt to death in a road accident on Ife-Ibadan Expressway. The accident, which occurred at about 3.30pm in Ikire, headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, caused traffic congestion on the busy road, making drivers to ply other routes. An eyewitness said three commercial busses going from Ibadan to Ile-Ife end of the road rammed into two petrol tankers and the vehicles exploded.
