Senate warns Buhari’s nominees against assuming office without confirmation

Senate wednesday cautioned President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominees for head of agencies against assumption of office without its confirmation following reports that nominee for the Executive Secretary of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mr. Tony Ojukwu, has already assumed duties in acting capacity. Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Abubakar Malami, had facilitated a letter directing the most senior officer, Mrs. Otti Ovravah, who has been acting, to hand over to Ojukwu. Nigeria reports record high Lassa fever cases with 317

Health authorities say a Lassa fever outbreak in Nigeria has reached a record high and there are suspected cases in neighboring Benin as well. Nigeria has reported 317 confirmed cases in two months, more than the total for all of last year. World Health Organization says there are 20 suspected cases across the border in Benin. FG sets up probe into girls' school attack, abductions

Federal government said Tuesday it has set up a panel to investigate the abduction of 110 girls from their school last week by suspected members of the extremist Boko Haram group.
