Kano women hold rally against rape

Hundreds of women defied an early morning downpour in Kano and took to the streets on Tuesday in a rally against rampant cases of rape of girls and minors in the state. The protest march, organised by old students of St, Louis Secondary School, Kano, and some professional women bodies in the city, was aimed at drawing attention of the authorities to the phenomenon. At least eight people are dead after female suicide bombers attacked two displaced persons camps in northeastern Nigeria's main city, a civilian self-defense group said Monday. It was the first major attack on a displaced persons camp in Maiduguri, the birthplace of the Boko Haram extremist insurgency. Nigerian Army has redeployed, cancelled or amended postings of seven major generals, 45 brigadier generals and 597 other officers last week, in one of its most far-reaching shake-up exercise in recent years. No fewer than 14 persons have been reported dead in a ghastly tanker and bus collision in Ile-Ife, Osun State on Sunday. Witnesses say the dead, who were consumed in the inferno, include women and children.
