Strangely

A 26-year-old woman from Zambia recently made international news for allegedly taking her boyfriend to court because he “wasted her time” by failing to propose after an eight-year relationship. Tired of waiting for her partner to pop the big question, Gertrude Ngoma decided to take him to court, as a way of forcing his hand. The woman from Ndola, Zambia’s second largest city, claims Herbert Salaliki, 28, promised to marry her, and even paid the lobola (a traditional dowry) to her parents, as a sign that he will take care of her, but has since been putting it off. Despite…

Why smart people fail to be happy

“If you’re so smart, how come you aren’t happy?” That’s Naval Ravikant’s challenge¹ to everyone bathing in the misery of their own intelligence. “Happiness is a choice,” he says; something you can work on, like your fitness, nutrition, or career. Naval knows it’s a choice because he too had to make it for himself: “I was born poor and miserable, and I’m now pretty well off and very happy — and I worked at those.” Naval also knows that’s an unpopular statement to make for two reasons: Some people are depressed at a molecular level and thus have a real,…
If you are wondering how to spend a penny in space, well the answer is to spend £14million. That's because space toilets cost a pretty penny. One space toilet on the ISS cost $19million. Why was it so expensive? Well, space toilets are like super-special vacuum cleaners. They need a complex series of pipes and vacuum tubes to suck up waste and dry it out. The extracted water is recycled, and the waste is stored. Eventually, it is sent back into Earth’s atmosphere, where it burns up like shooting stars. In 2007, NASA agreed to pay $19million (£14million) for a…
A United Arab Emirates woman broke a Guinness World Record when she visited all seven continents in 3 days, 14 hours, 46 minutes and 48 seconds. Khawla AlRomaithi completed her whirlwind tour of the globe in Sydney, Australia, on Feb. 13, shortly before travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic went into effect. "It was a difficult journey; the attempt demanded a lot of patience, especially in airports, as well as having to deal with constant plane rides," AlRomaithi said. "I wanted to quit on many different occasions if I am being honest, I just wanted to get back home.…
Japan is struggling with a mental health crisis as the coronavirus pandemic rages on, with more people dying in one month from suicide than from Covid-19 all year long. The National Police Agency said suicides surged to 2,153 in October alone, with more than 17,000 people taking their own lives this year to date, CBS reported. By comparison, fewer than 2,000 people in the country have died from Covid-19 in 2020. Experts say the pandemic has exacerbated mental health issues due to prolonged lockdowns, isolation from family members, unemployment and other financial concerns, and a lack of school structure. "We…
