Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has convicted and sentenced a former Deputy Chief Registrar of the court, Mutiat Adio, to five years imprisonment for issuance of dishonoured cheque. A statement by EFCC on Sunday said the Ibadan zonal office of the commission secured the conviction of the court’s top official on Friday. The statement stated that Adio was convicted after pleading guilty to fresh charges of obtaining money by false pretence and issuance of dishonored cheque. Fifteen Turkish sailors kidnapped by pirates last month in the Gulf of Guinea have been freed, Turkish state broadcaster TRT Haber reported on Friday, some two weeks after the kidnappers made contact with the shipping company to discuss a ransom. One sailor, an Azerbaijani citizen, was killed in the raid which crew, family members and security sources described as a sophisticated and well-orchestrated attack. Those kidnapped were from Turkey. Suspected Fulani herdsmen, on Thursday, attacked Owode-Ketu and Ijoun villages in the Yewa-North Local Government Area of Ogun State and killed two persons. Violence and unrest have been reported in Obalende area of Lagos, as factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers allegedly clashed on Thursday morning. In several videos circulated on social media, passengers and people within the neighbourhood were seen scampering for safety. As at the time of this report, the reason for the clash is unknown. Between 2008 and 2018, about N90.9 billion meant to execute 176 projects was unaccounted for in the coffers of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), a review of the auditor-general’s reports has shown. Zamfara state officials say Awwalun Daudawa surrendered with four of his group members, renounced violence and handed over 20 rifles. Police Command in Osun on Tuesday, confirmed the kidnap of three travellers along Ilesha-Akure Express in Osun on Monday night.
