6m Nigerians susceptible to diabetes - Global Panel

Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition has forecast that the number of people suffering from Type 2 Diabetes in Nigeria will double from 3.1 million to 6.1 million from 2011-2030. Oyo sends private waste contractors packing

Funmi Olaitan, Ibadan Oyo State government yesterday disclosed that its contracts with all Private Waste Contractors had been terminated with effect from May 5, stating that Oyo State Waste Management Authority (OYOWMA) now has the mandate with full responsibility for the collection of waste in line with its commitment to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment. UTME: Check your emails, JAMB tells candidates

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Examination, JAMB, has advised candidates for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, scheduled to commence on Saturday, to check their e-mails for notification of their examination centres. Ajimobi vows to move against recalcitrant street traders

Funmi Olaitan, Ibadan Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state on Thursday warned traders who preferred to display and sell their wares by the roadsides instead of moving into the neighbourhood market stalls freely allocated to them by the state government that they will soon lose them. National Assembly passes 2017 budget

National Assembly has passed the 2017 Appropriations Bill, raising the budget from N7.28 billion earlier proposed by President Muhammadu Buhari in December last year, to N7.44 trillion. Appropriations Committees of the Senate and House of Representatives separately presented their harmonised reports of the budget for consideration and subsequent passage on Thursday. Some beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s N-power programme in Nasarawa have protested non-payment of their five months stipend. Gombe State Agricultural Development Project, ADP, says that the tomato pest, Tuta Absoluta, has seriously affected tomato harvests in three of the state’s 11 local government areas. Shake-up in top hierarchy as Customs reconstitutes new management

Nigeria Customs Service has reconstituted its management and announced some key appointments to rejig the service toward greater efficiency. 28 states owe teachers - NUT

Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) said yesterday 28 states were owing teachers backlog of salaries. Its National President, Mr Michael Alogba-Olukoya, spoke yesterday at a two-day workshop on commercialisation and privatisation of education organised by NUT and Educational International (EI) for the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) members in Abuja.
