Former governor of Delta state, Chief James Ibori, has said he had been wrongly accused and maligned by those who said he stole, saying “I am not a thief, I cannot be a thief”. Chief Ibori also said the biggest pain he felt over his travails was the suffering his people had to go through on account of his absence. Speaking at a special thanksgiving service organised in his honour by his immediate community; the Oghara Kingdom, and held at the First Baptist Church, Oghara, Chief Ibori also said his only testimony and joy now is the fact that he…

Adamu told the Economic Confidential magazine in Abuja that the number is distributed across the 77 study centres scattered all over the country touching all the states, local government areas and the six geopolitical zones. “I can confidently confirm to you that the total registered active student population is now 254,000 scattered across the 77 study centres in the country”, Adamu said. Federal Government said it recovered another $151 million and N8 billion looted funds from three sources through whistle-blowers. Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos. Mr. Mohammed said actionable information given by whistleblowers to the office of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation led to the recovery of the looted fund. He said the looted funds do not include the $9.2 million cash recently recovered from a former Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Andrew Yakubu, also through the whistle-blower policy. Mr. Yakubu has since been…
In trying to verify the accuracy of the odd appointment letter I earlier published, I discovered that President Muhammadu Buhari actually has 9, not 6, media aides, all of whom also have a retinue of personal aides. The presidential media aides are Femi Adesina (Special Adviser, Media & Publicity); Garba Shehu (Senior Special Assistant, Media & Publicity); Tolu Ogunlesi (Special Assistant, Digital & New Media); Lauretta Onochie (Personal Assistant, Social Media); Bashir Ahmad (Personal Assistant, New media); Sha’aban Sharada (Personal Assistant, Broadcast Media); Naziru Muhammed (Personal Assistant, TV Documentary); Sunday Aghaeze (Personal Assistant, Photography); and Bayo Omoboriowo (Personal Assistant/ President’s…
Nigerian airport employees may walk out over pay issues at the capital's temporary airport while the main airport's runway is being repaired, their trade union said on Saturday. Abuja airport runway had deteriorated to such an extent that some major international airlines had refused to fly there, and some aircraft reported damage to their undercarriage. Federal government has said airlines will be able to use the airport at the provincial city of Kaduna, 100 miles (160 km) north of Abuja during the six-week repair period from March 8. But scepticism over the government's plans reigns, as a new terminal for…

She urged Nigerians…
President Muhammadu Buhari has said he would only return to Nigeria when his London doctors certify him well enough to do so. “… I am extending my leave until the doctors are satisfied that certain factors are ruled out,” Mr. Buhari said in a February 5 letter to the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, informing the National Assembly of the extension of his vacation. Although snippets of the letter were publicised by the presidency and the Senate on February 5 and 6 respectively, this is the first time the entire text and copy of the correspondence would be made…

Boko Haram insurgents ambushed a convoy of new recruits in northeast Nigeria, killing seven troops and abducting a female soldier, the Nigerian military and a self-defense commander said Friday. Nineteen soldiers were wounded. Thursday evening's ambush occurred near the town of Mafa, 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of Maiduguri. The city in northeastern Nigeria is the birthplace of Boko Haram and headquarters of the Nigerian military's campaign to crush the seven-year Islamic insurgency that has killed more than 20,000 people.
