Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Lagos State chapter on Tuesday lamented what it described as the continuous unfair treatment of Christians in the country. Fresh violence erupts in Taraba, 10 killed

At least 10 people have been killed and several houses burnt in fresh violence that erupted on Tuesday in Taraba State North Eastern Nigeria, witnesses say. But police said six people died in the clashes between the Fulani and Mummuye ethnic groups in Lau Local Government area of the state. Since last Friday, there have been pockets of violence and reprisal attacks in some communities in the area. Francis Odesanya, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, has died. Police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, told this newspaper moments ago that Mr. Odesanya passed on while receiving treatment in India. He was 56. Mr. Moshood said Mr. Odesanya had written to the police headquarters a few weeks ago seeking medical leave abroad, which was granted. “It was while receiving treatment that we got information about his death today,” Mr. Moshood sir. FG disburses loans to 23,400 persons

The Federal Government has disbursed loans to 23,400 beneficiaries in 13 states and the Federal Capital Territory under its enterprise and empowerment programme. Spokesman to the vice president, Mr Laolu Akande, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, did not disclose the exact amount disbursed. The loans ranged from N10,000 to N100,000 per applicant and would be paid directly to individuals who were expected to belong to registered associations or co-operatives “to ensure that they are peer-endorsed as credible”.
